Competencies (1 & 2)
1.2 Obtain primary data, secondary data, and other evidence-informed sources.
1.2.1 Identify primary data, secondary data, and evidence-informed resources.
1.2.2 Establish collaborative relationships and agreements that facilitate access to data.
Summary: After creating my own version of the early-stage care guide, Sarah gave me access to presentations, primary CARE Center data, and other evidence-informed resource guides that I could directly copy into the guide that have been approved by the University (1.2.1). Obtaining this data allowed me establish relationships between my writing and the approved writing and make appropriate edits. Establishing these relationships allowed me to understand where to add information and change wording and information (1.2.2).
2.1 Engage priority populations, partners, and stakeholders for participation in the planning process.
2.1.1 Convene priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
2.1.2 Facilitate collaborative efforts among priority populations, partners, and stakeholders.
2.1.3 Establish the rationale for the intervention.
Summary: This week, I spent time meeting with Jenay and Lisa who have specialized education in dementia care to go over the care guide (2.1.1). When reviewing the rough draft of the early-stage guide, Jenay gave me ideas, edits, and suggestions for each chapter of the early-stage guide and also gave me references to use from the CARE Center that have already been created and can be incorporated into the care guide. I also spoke with Lisa who has education in the nutritional aspects of dementia and plans to create a nutritional guide with appropriate advice (2.1.2). During this meeting with Jenay and Lisa, and then further discussion with Sarah allowed me to rationalize all of the information I gathered to begin the final rough draft of the early-stage guide.
Reflection: What, So What, Now What?
This week at the CARE Center I learned more about the different fields of expertise that lie within the CARE Center such as in nutrition, technology, and research fields. I also learned about all of the work that has previously been done at the CARE Center that directly correlated with my work and could be appropriately used. This matters because I was able to make more connections with team members, learn more about the CARE Center, and incorporate this information into my own work. At this point, I plan to continue working on Volume 1 and making edits as I find that the information given to me fits into the book and can make the process easier.
