Today was the first day of my internship at the CARE Center! I spent the morning with my supervisor, Sarah, as she briefed me on my duties and the activities happening around the CARE Center today. She also suggested that I do the HIPAA training so that I am able to take a more invasive role in patient interactions for shadowing and interviewing purposes. I spent a good bit of time watching the training video and taking the quiz for the first part of the morning and then moved on to the beginning stages of my project. I was given a copy of the care guide I was updating as well as other versions of care guides to be able to analyze the similarities and differences between them. For the rest of the morning, I analyzed the care guide page by page and added feedback and ideas. After lunch, I shared my first thoughts about the care guide with Sarah. We made the plan for me to have a set of questions to ask people about how to best structure the care guide and what goes in it. After this, I spent the afternoon redesigning the care guide on Canva and coming up with questions for discussion. Around 4pm, Sarah, Scout (the MPH intern), and a group of caregivers attended a support group meeting. During this meeting, Sarah discussed different events happening within the coming weeks and caregivers shared their questions and sentiments about their current experiences with their loved one with dementia. Once this meeting ended, I wrapped up any last thoughts with Sarah, and it was time to leave for the day.
